Elizabeth Curwen and Evan Carlson bring deep expertise to Outreach Strategies
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (June 24, 2014, Washington, D.C.) – Outreach Strategies, LLC (OS) announced today that the firm’s senior leadership is expanding with the hires of Elizabeth Curwen as Vice President and Evan Carlson as Account Manager. OS is a leader in environmental communications and advocacy, focused on creating positive change on some of the most pressing environmental and natural resource challenges of our times.
The addition of Curwen and Carlson signals the continued strategic growth of OS as an award-winning leader operating at the intersection of business strategy, policy impacts and public communication.
“Elizabeth has helped foundations and nonprofits articulate their strategies and implement them through smart engagements and compelling messaging. Evan is a seasoned veteran of the campaign trail and the Beltway with strong media relations expertise,” said Tad Segal, the firm’s president and founder. “Their backgrounds make them both valuable additions to our team, and we’re delighted to have them.”
A seasoned public affairs practitioner with 20 years of experience in working with corporations, trade associations and nonprofits on environment, health and related public policy issues, Curwen comes to OS from Spitfire Strategies, where she had been leading major client engagements for the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Ford Foundation and nonprofits across the country. As a vice president at Spitfire, she helped foundations articulate clear strategies and worked with grantees to implement that vision through strategic communication. Curwen has run national and state-based thought leadership, media and issue campaigns at a variety of agencies and associations, including the American Chemistry Council and APCO Worldwide.

Carlson has over six years of experience delivering successful communications strategies for issue and political campaigns. Carlson served as a spokesperson for former New Hampshire Governor John Lynch and Vice President Joe Biden during his 2007 presidential campaign and as a regional communications director for the Alliance for Climate Protection. In these roles, he developed a strong skill set in media relations, rapid response and targeted audience engagement. In his most recent role at the Center for International Policy, he designed and implemented the digital outreach strategy for the Security Assistance Monitor. Evan also has a master’s in international communication with a focus on corporate diplomacy from American University.

Alison Omens, currently Vice President at OS, will also be moving to another role with the firm. She will become a Senior Adviser to OS, providing strategic counsel, innovative ideas and media relations acumen honed through her work at OS and more than seven years running national and state communications and media outreach for the AFL-CIO. She will be attending Harvard Kennedy School for a mid-career masters of public administration program starting this year.
