Abby Berger is passionate about advancing sustainability through creative integrated communication strategies. She is a true advocate for her clients, focused on understanding their organizations inside and out to craft successful engagement programs. Abby brings these skills and a depth of experience on energy, environmental and transportation issues to Outreach Strategies as Vice President.
Prior to joining Outreach Strategies, Abby was a director at global public relations firm Golin, where she focused on energy and corporate sustainability as part of the public affairs practice. At Golin, Berger led media, social marketing and stakeholder engagement programs, including a state-sponsored energy efficiency education campaign and industry efforts to bring alternative fuel-powered products to market.
Abby has spent much of her career supporting the communication needs of federal agencies. Abby has provided effective and efficient communication plans for such initiatives as EPA’s Indoor Air Plus by ENERGY STAR program, NOAA’s Sustainable Fisheries division and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Smart Disposal campaign to educate consumers about the proper disposal methods of unused medication. While serving as a consultant at EPA, Abby helped promote the agency’s science and human health research programs and build awareness of the annual P3 student sustainability design competition and expo.
Abby earned a B.S. in Communications Studies from Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication and an M.A. in Public Communication from American University. She began her career in sustainability as an intern for the London-based Associate Parliamentary Sustainable Waste Group. When she’s not communicating on behalf of clients, Abby can be found at a park with her rescue dog Pugsley, exploring DC’s farmers markets or taking in live music and theater.
